XML Sitemap Validator
Check a pasted or local XML sitemap for syntax, structure, URL formats, duplicate entries, and dates. Validation runs locally without crawling.
Your sitemap XML
Paste XML or open an uncompressed UTF-8 file. Checks update automatically.
Tool limits: 2 MB UTF-8, 10,000 entries, 50,000 source lines, and 100,000 XML elements. These are lower than sitemap protocol limits. Decompress .gz files before opening. No URLs or extension resources are fetched.

Understand what the validator checks
Which sitemap formats are supported?
Use an XML urlset or sitemapindex with the standard sitemap namespace. Core loc and lastmod fields are checked; URL sitemaps also check changefreq and priority when supplied. Extension namespaces such as image, video, news, and hreflang are reported but not validated. Text, RSS, Atom, and compressed files are not supported.
How are URLs and dates checked?
Locations must be absolute HTTP(S) URLs without login details. Duplicate detection uses normalized URLs without fragments; it does not reorder query parameters or decode all equivalent paths. Dates accept real YYYY-MM-DD dates or W3C-style date-times with explicit timezones. Multi-host documents and future dates receive review notes because the correct interpretation depends on your setup.
Does this verify search-engine eligibility?
No. URLs, child sitemaps, robots.txt, HTTP status, canonical pages, access rights, image resources, and indexing are not checked. Sitemap-location scope and cross-site submission permissions require context this tool does not have. Passing the supported checks does not guarantee search-engine acceptance.
How is my XML kept private?
Files are read locally and decoded as UTF-8. DTD and entity declarations are rejected before parsing. External schemas, stylesheets, and referenced URLs are never loaded. Results are displayed as text, with no uploads, processing API, or browser storage.
